The Auckland University Singers was a chamber choir established in 1970 and conducted from its inception by Peter Godfrey, who trained numerous other choral groups. They are shown in St Mary's Cathedral in 1982, with Godfrey standing in the middle of the second row. That year Godfrey moved to Wellington and the choir gave a farewell concert at Auckland Grammar School Hall. The programme included 'Ghosts, fire, water' by Auckland composer Douglas Mews. The words are from James Kirkup's poem, which was inspired by the bombing of Hiroshima.
