An ex-racing greyhound

An ex-racing greyhound

The greatest concern of the Greyhound Protection League of New Zealand is what happens to racing greyhounds like Paige (pictured) once they are no longer making money for their owners. When this photograph was taken, Paige was being kennelled with 17 other ex-racing greyhounds at the property of two former licensed trainers. On investigating, the SPCA negotiated the handover of all 18 dogs in exchange for immunity from prosecution on animal neglect charges. Five dogs were euthanised on site that day, and more in the days following. It is unknown what happened to Paige.
