Children play Kiwi cricket at Hataitai School in 1994. A change of sporting ethos in the 1980s away from winning and towards encouraging children's participation in sport led to the modification of some sports to better accommodate children's needs. Kiwi cricket is a children's version of cricket played with a smaller wicket, a brightly coloured ball, and different scoring and dismissal rules than adult cricket.
