Kōrero: Children’s play

Women demonstrate whai, traditional string games, at Jerusalem (Hiruhārama), on the Whanganui River, in 1921. Children learned traditional games by observing adults and older children playing them. This particular demonstration was for the benefit of ethnologist Johannes Andersen (seated first on the left, immediately in front of the women).
