A New Zealand skydiving record was set in August 2012 over the Tasman district, when skydivers linked hand to hand or hand to ankle to create a 22-strong freefall formation. Because the skydivers could not jump out of the plane at the same time, their main challenge was to stay on the same level as each other. This meant adjusting their body positions to control their fall rates: skydivers arch their backs and pull in their bodies to go faster and stretch out to go slower.
