Cedric Firth was one of a group of young New Zealand architects who began to explore the modernist style in the 1930s. This room in Firth’s own house, built in 1941 in Karori, Wellington, shows the sparse, clean-lined but comfortable interiors that typified early New Zealand modernism. Among the items of furniture is a wooden-framed canvas deckchair that could be used inside or out.
