Danyon Loader, 1996

A huge crowd welcomed Danyon Loader back to his home town of Dunedin after he won two gold medals at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Here an emotional Loader is flanked by Olympic chef de mission Dave Gerrard (left) and his coach Duncan Laing (right). Loader paid tribute to Laing: 'He is a tremendous coach and I think he's just hitting his prime – he's just great.' Both men were subsequently inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, joining Gerrard, who was already inducted.
