Chris Amon was born in Bulls, Manawatū, and began racing in the Formula One Grand Prix series in 1963. From 1965 he drove for fellow New Zealander Bruce McLaren's team and the two men won the Le Mans 24-hour sports-car race in 1966. Amon later drove for Ferrari and in 1969 won the New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekohe in a Ferrari 246T. He is seen here on the winner's dais. After retiring from motor sport Amon was involved in the upgrade of the Taupo Motorsport Circuit, used for the 2006–7 A1 Grand Prix. Chris Amon died in 2016.
