Kōrero: Motor sport

The dust flies at Christchurch's Addington Raceway during New Zealand's first race meeting for motor vehicles alone, held in 1905. Thirty vehicles took part in this Great Automobile Gymkhana. Events included a driving competition and races around the trotting track, the number of laps varying according to each vehicle's horsepower. The under-6-horsepower class was won by a local GP, Dr Diamond, in a De Dion car.
