Land marchers, 1975

Image
Land marchers, 1975

Māori land march participants bed down for the night at Te Hāpua marae, Northland, in September 1975. Marchers included some Pākehā, such as the man in the foreground, but most non-Māori New Zealanders at this time were unaware of Māori customs and values. This was to change in the following decades as more Pākehā visited marae and learned about Māori protocol.
