Ann Newlands (the woman at left) and Marga Klompe from the Netherlands explain human rights to French children at the United Nations meeting in Paris in 1948. That year Newlands was one of the New Zealand delegates to the UN negotiations that resulted in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She later described this period as the highlight of her public life as a Labour Party activist and community leader.
