Household shopping, 1973

Household shopping, 1973

These women shopping in Johnsonville, Wellington, in 1973, were doing a household job that had been managed quite differently in the past. Delivery services, all provided by men and boys, brought milk, newspapers and food to homes, and took rubbish away. By the 2000s few people got the paper at home, and milk was no longer delivered. Grocery deliveries continued in a limited and more impersonal way via the internet, but most people went to the local shops.
