
By the 2000s washday was a thing of the past. Electric washing machines, like the one being loaded in this 2012 photograph, could be filled in five minutes and left to run through a wash cycle. The spin function, which removed much of the water from the clothes, left them ready for an electric dryer or an old-fashioned washing line.
