Andrew Marck pitches for Howick-Pakuranga against Westcity-Metro in the New Zealand Baseball Club Championship final at Crossfields Reserve, Auckland, in March 2012. Howick-Pakuranga went on to win the game and the championship. Baseball grew in popularity in New Zealand in the early years of the 21st century, particularly in Auckland. The overarm pitching style of baseball is one of the features that distinguishes it from softball.
