The academies that emerged in some schools from the 1990s provided training for young people who were interested in a career in professional sports. Since 1998 Mount Albert Grammar School has hosted a football academy directed by Kevin Fallon, who previously coached the New Zealand All Whites. The academy has brought considerable success to the Mount Albert Grammar School football team. Here they celebrate their 2–0 win in the final of the school national championships at Nelson.
