Sideshow tents, Waikato River regatta, 1901

Sideshow tents, Waikato River regatta, 1901

From the 19th century arcade-style amusements or sideshows were a standard feature of agricultural and pastoral (A & P) shows, community carnivals, church bazaars and other public events. These tents housed the sideshows at a regatta on the Waikato River in 1901. The crowds around some tents attest to their popularity.
