Golfing pioneers, 1895

Several distinguished pioneers of New Zealand golf appear in this 1895 group photo taken at a championship meeting of the Hutt Golf Club at Waiwhetū. They include C. R. Howden, a founder of Dunedin Golf Club (standing, extreme right), his brother D. B. Howden, a founder of the Hutt Golf Club (seated, fourth from right), and A. D. S. Duncan, one of the most prominent early-20th-century players (standing, second from left). A large group of caddies are seated in front of the players.
