Linda Jones

Linda Jones brings back the winner of the 1979 Wellington Derby, Holy Toledo, to the Trentham bird cage. Though no longer run, the Wellington Derby was then a prestige race, attracting a field of 18 top three-year-olds, and the country’s best riders. Jones was the first New Zealand woman jockey to gain the right to race against men, in 1977. After she gained equality, her career was short but spectacular: in 18 months she rode 65 winners.
