The Protestant Irish settlement of Katikati in the Bay of Plenty was formed in 1875 by George Vesey Stewart, originally from County Tyrone, Ireland. Three of Stewart's eight children – (from left) Harry, Hugh and William – are shown in 1899 playing cards at the family home, named Martray after their ancestral estate in Ireland. No money appears to be changing hands.
