Alfred outside Miranui

This photograph of Miranui (the big mill) at Shannon shows Alfred Seifert (centre), near racks of drying flax fibre. Miranui operated day and night and employed 200 men. Seifert was the driving force behind the enterprise, designing the mill and taking a close interest in it.
