Factory workers' hair

Factory workers' hair

The factory workers in this photograph are wearing a variation on the ‘Victory rolls’ style, which received government endorsement in the United States. Keeping hair out of the wearer’s eyes and away from machinery, the style was safer than the other fashionable style of the time: longer hair worn loose, parted on one side with a long fringe falling over one eye, made fashionable by movie star Veronica Lake.
