Miss Golden Shears, 1980 (1 o 4)

Miss Golden Shears, 1980

The Wairarapa provincial beauty contest was called Miss Golden Shears because it was part of the annual Golden Shears shearing competition. It was first held in 1971. Here, the contestants in the 1980 show display their evening gowns on the main stage. The winner was Maree Cooper (eighth from right).

Miss Golden Shears folded in 1992 but the contest – renamed Miss Wairarapa and no longer associated with the Golden Shears – was held again in 2012.
