Hastings Blossom Festival queen and princess, 1962

In addition to the nationwide Miss New Zealand contests, local contests were held at community festivals. Here, the Hastings Blossom Festival queen of 1962 gives the royal wave to festival-goers during the street parade. The festival princess, Janice Troup, is in the foreground swathed in a pink quilted gown.
