This photo from December 1965 shows members of the Manurewa Workingmen's and Cosmopolitan Club playing snooker recreationally. In addition to providing tables for recreational playing, clubs often organise snooker, billiards and pool competitions. By the 1960s snooker had become a more widespread cue sport than billiards. Snooker was in turn overtaken in popularity by pool, which spread in the 1960s and 1970s as pubs installed the smaller pool tables.
