The United Nations Special Tribunal for Lebanon was set up in 2009 to prosecute those responsible for the assassination of the former prime minister of Lebanon, Rafic Hariri. Baragwanath, a retired New Zealand judge, was appointed to the tribunal in October 2010 and elected as its president in October 2011.
