Riding for the Disabled

Riding for the Disabled

The concept of Riding for the Disabled was introduced to New Zealand in 1962, and the organisation was formally established in 1972. In 2022 there were more than 50 groups around the country. A Riding for the Disabled programme is shown in operation at Totara Park, Manukau. Riding has great therapeutic benefits for people with disabilities, helping with balance, muscle tone, perception, spatial awareness and motor skills. The organisation has also made it possible for disabled riders to become involved in equestrian sports.
