Tossing the sheaf (2 o 2)

Tossing the sheaf

A competitor tosses the sheaf at the 1996 Waipū Highland Games. The sheaf is a heavy bag that is tossed with a pitchfork over a progressively raised cross bar. Three attempts are allowed at each height. If the thrower misses all three tries at a height, he is out of the competition. The Waipū Highland Games have taken place annually since 1871, and are one of the ways the small township of Waipū celebrates its Scottish heritage.
