New Zealand's Dick Quax (second from left, upper photo) wins silver in the dramatic final of the 5,000 metres at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. The race winner is Finland's Lasse Virén (far right, upper photo). New Zealand's Rod Dixon (far left) had looked set to win bronze, when West German Klaus-Peter Hildebrand (second from right, upper photo) threw himself across the line, pipping Dixon for third place.
