Kōrero: Liquor laws

Manukau citizens march to Manukau Square in 2010 to call for a range of changes to liquor laws. Following liquor law reforms in the late 1980s and 1990s, many expressed disquiet at rising alcohol consumption, which had previously been falling. The plethora of off-licence liquor shops (where alcohol could be bought to take away) in poorer communities was a particular cause for concern. The people on this march wanted the government to increase the liquor-purchasing age, reduce allowable drink-driving levels, increase controls on liquor advertising and make it harder for new off-licences to open.
