This advertisement showcases W. L. Rogers's furniture showroom in Auckland's Karangahape Road in the early 1900s. The contrasting patterns and heavy wooden frames were one of many styles at the time. They ranged from flat and chunky arts and crafts at one end of the spectrum to curvaceous, florid art nouveau at the other, alongside revivals of earlier styles and Oriental influences.
