Invoking the Treaty of Waitangi

A participant in a 2004 hīkoi (march) to Parliament holds up a copy of the Treaty of Waitangi. Protesters wanted the government to confirm Māori customary rights to the seabed and foreshore. The Treaty of Waitangi, which safeguards customary rights, is recognised in New Zealand law.
