Christchurch Town Hall: interior (2 o 2)

Christchurch Town Hall: interior

This is the main auditorium of the Christchurch Town Hall, which seated 2,500 people. Warren and Mahoney, the architects, worked closely with acoustic expert Sir Harold Marshall to create a space that became known for the excellence of its acoustics. The design was seen as ground-breaking and influenced the design of concert halls internationally. The town hall was severely damaged in the 2011 earthquake, but is expected to be rebuilt as part of a performing arts precinct by 2018.
