Destroying guns in Solomon Islands

Destroying guns in Solomon Islands

Collecting and destroying weapons was an important task for peacekeeping forces in the Solomons. This 2003 photograph, taken in Auki, Malaita province, shows a member of the Malaita Eagle Force kissing his self-loading rifle before surrendering it. Behind him stretches a line of men waiting to hand over weapons – altogether 99 were collected and given to a delegation from the Regional Assistance Mission for destruction.
