Kōrero: Civil defence

Two women members of the Emergency Precautions Scheme (EPS) practise their first-aid skills on a boy pretending to be an air-raid victim during an exercise in 1942. The EPS was set up by the government during the Second World War as part of the home defence system. Its volunteer members also used their firefighting and first-aid skills in the aftermath of several natural disasters. The concept of civil defence developed out of the scheme.
