Other than six entrenched provisions of the Electoral Act 1993, constitutional statutes can be changed by a simple majority vote in the House of Representatives. The change to the mixed-member proportional (MMP) voting system in 1993 occurred in this way, but only after two referendums had been held on the subject. In the 2011 general election another referendum on the voting system was held. More than half of voters chose to keep MMP, which meant that MMP would be retained and reviewed.
