Kōrero: Conscription, conscientious objection and pacifism

In the Second World War most conscientious objectors served only short jail sentences but were then held for the duration of the war in specially built detention camps. This 1943 photo shows conscientious objectors at Hautu Detention Camp, near Tūrangi on the Desert Road.
