Peter de Waal signs a petition calling for the removal of GST (goods and services tax) on food products outside an Auckland supermarket in 2009. Signatures for petitions are collected in a variety of ways, including distribution through friends and community networks, street canvassers, and (increasingly) on the internet. In 2011 GST remained on food, but the Labour Party had pledged to remove it from fresh fruit and vegetables if it was elected.
