Iranian immigrant Amir Mohebbi is shown at his home in Pakuranga, Auckland, after his release from prison in November 2007. He was the longest-serving remand prisoner in New Zealand, having spent almost four years in Mt Eden Prison. Mohebbi was imprisoned after he refused to be deported to Iran, claiming that his life would be in danger because he had converted to Christianity. He also wanted to stay in Auckland with his wife and three children, who were all New Zealand citizens. Mohebbi was released after a high-court judge ruled that his continued imprisonment without trial was a breach of his human rights.
