Despite the court's finding against it, France continued testing nuclear weapons until 1996, when it signed the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty after its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly that year. In 2011 the treaty had not yet been ratified by all 44 countries that had nuclear power or reactors in 1996, so was not yet officially in force.
