British vice-regal couples brought out family members, friends or members of their regiments to serve as comptrollers of the household, aides-de-camp and ladies-in-waiting. Some held titles, and the men seen here with Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson enjoyed perks such as free membership of leading private clubs.
