i was born on 18th feb 1954, with hare lip and cleft palate, i was born in lower hutt and was a baby patient of dr pickerill for most of my baby and junior years. she operated on me many times and my overwhelming memery of her ,was ,at the age of about 8 ,she advised me that her next operation, she was going to take a bone graft from my hip ,and build me a new nose bridge. my nose was decidedly "flat" and her proceedure was going to "fix all that" i thought the doctor was "having me on" but on awaking from the op ,found that my left hip was all bandaged up , and my face was bandaged too. after a few days , the bandage came off my hip and i had to learn to walk again. when the bandage came off my face , IT WAS A REVELATION! although i was black and blue all over my face , I HAD NOSE! WOW!. THAT WAS THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE. i cried with joy. she had changed my young life and for that i am eternally greatfull ,not only to DR Pickerill but to all the nurses.

The love I feel for Dr Pickerill is huge. I stare at her picture and worship her. I was born 17th Feb 1959. Even though my memories are fading I can still remember the caring and warmth that radiated from her.

Me too! I came to Wellington from Dannevirke in about 1958 for surgery with Lady Doctor Pickerill. A wee girl also came from Washington DC at that time also. Never have I forgotten her and my treatment.
