With a child at Fernhill School

Sylvia is pictured with a child at Fernhill School, Hawke's Bay, where she and Keith taught from 1949 to 1957.  During this time she was writing prolifically – both teaching theory and Spinster, a novel based on her teaching experience. Spinster was published to acclaim in 1958.
