Opening Parliament

Opening Parliament

Queen Elizabeth II, about to open New Zealand’s Parliament in 1974, sits with her speech in her lap. Legislation passed by Parliament that year confirmed her local title as Queen of New Zealand. She is flanked by Prince Charles (left) and the Duke of Edinburgh, and was also accompanied on this visit by Princess Anne with her husband Mark Phillips.
