Supporting the Ngahere appeal

Supporting the Ngahere appeal

A group of children from Wellington's Clyde Quay school prepare to march down to the waterfront and the famine-relief ship Ngahere. The Ngahere sailed around New Zealand in 1985, collecting supplies for African countries hit by famine. From left, Kelly Stewart, Nicky Kotsifakis and Hinepua Morrison were three of more than 200 children from a number of schools who walked through the city collecting donations for the ship. The appeal was widely supported, with churches, business groups and members of Parliament collecting money, and the insurance industry contributing cover for the voyage to Port Sudan.
