Vietnam: hostile return home

By the time New Zealand forces withdrew from Vietnam in 1971, public opinion had largely turned against the war. Some people greeted returning forces with contempt. In this Auckland parade for the 161 Battery in May 1971, demonstrators accused the soldiers of being murderers. The photograph captures a scuffle between one protester and the police.
