Families Commission, 'On the couch'

Ryan Monga (left) and Betty-Anne Monga with son Jesse (aged nine) sit on a couch in the garden of their Manurewa, Auckland home in April 2006. They were one of 7,000 families involved in a Families Commission polling scheme run around the country asking their opinions on various family issues. The Families Commission was established as an autonomous Crown entity in 2004, as part of a United Future and Labour deal following the 2002 election. It was renamed Superu – Social Policy Evaluation and Research Unit – in 2014. It was closed permanently in 2018.
