Kindergarten changes: kindergarten protest

In the early 2000s the Auckland Kindergarten Association started to offer longer sessions at some of its kindergartens, instead of the traditional half-day sessions. Some parents were not happy with this change. In 2009 parents whose children attended the Northcote Kindergarten held protests when this change was proposed. Their protests were successful – the kindergarten still offered only half-day services in 2011, although 39 out of 107 kindergartens belonging to the association offered longer sessions.
