Demand for childcare services for under-fives grew in the 1970s. Fewer babies were placed for adoption and more mothers of young children did paid work. The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) was one organisation which responded to this demand by setting up a mobile service in Auckland in the mid-1980s. Here, one of the teachers is picking up supplies from the Massey Community House in West Auckland in 1985, followed by young children.
