Workers and friends of the Auckland Women’s Health Centre gather together for a photographer from the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, which published an article on the centre in 1980. Run by a collective, the centre included doctors, naturopaths and an iridologist. Sue (fifth from left) said, ‘We’re not replacing the family doctor. We’re offering alternatives of all kinds.’ The centre ran courses, workshops and support groups, and shared their old wooden villa with the Council for the Single Mother and her Child, Rape Crisis, and the Sisters Overseas Service, an abortion-counselling service.
