Image
Romanian Orthodox Church, Wellington

In 2010 there were Romanian Orthodox churches in Auckland and Wellington serving the spiritual and cultural needs of Romanian migrant communities. In 1994, when this photo was taken, about 40 Wellington families had adopted children from Romania. Father George Speranta of the Romanian Orthodox Church of St Mary in Berhampore, Wellington, is shown christening the recently adopted Ioni (left) and Nicholas, both aged four, and Eva, five.
